The U.S. Census Bureau must hire 500,000 temporary employees to help conduct the 2020 Census.
The Census Bureau hires locally. We want our staff to work in the neighborhoods and communities where they live. This is important in hard-to-count neighborhoods, especially where language skills other than English are required.
Job applicants must be U.S. citizens and complete a background check. The Census Bureau does not hire anyone who is in the country illegally. As it has done in the past, the Census Bureau is considering hiring legal residents who may not be citizens to serve as translators, if it is determined to be critical for engaging hard-to-count populations, including non-English speaking and immigrant communities.
