Census Responses Not Tied to Voter Registration

Your answers to the 2020 Census do not impact your voter registration status.

If someone does not respond to the 2020 Census, will their voter registration be inactivated?

No. Your completion of the 2020 Census does not have any impact on your voter registration or ability to vote in upcoming local or general elections. Your responses to the census are confidential and are not shared with voter registration officials, or any other government agency or official.

Some state and local governments conduct local censuses, known as city or town censuses; these are not conducted by the Census Bureau or related to the 2020 Census that counts everyone living in the United States. Check with your state or local government for information on the uses and impacts of any local censuses.
